There’s no perfect choice for an “umbrella term”, because ~the community~ is really many overlapping communities with distinct cultures and experiences but shared interests. It’s always going to be something someone doesn’t really vibe with! Sorry
When I was 20 I knew I wasn’t straight but wasn’t sure how I identified; I was interested in history, but sure people would be mad at me if I tried to access the “lesbian and gay” archive. It wasn’t even something I wondered about or was mad about. I thought it wasn’t for me.
