as a lesbian: I prefer this, because I don’t like erasure, euphemisms, or unwieldy attempts to enumerate the innumerable. you may feel differently! but either way, this was a democratic decision made by active members, who are from a broad range of identities. https://twitter.com/ALGArchives/status/1335804532614295552
There’s no perfect choice for an “umbrella term”, because ~the community~ is really many overlapping communities with distinct cultures and experiences but shared interests. It’s always going to be something someone doesn’t really vibe with! Sorry
When I was 20 I knew I wasn’t straight but wasn’t sure how I identified; I was interested in history, but sure people would be mad at me if I tried to access the “lesbian and gay” archive. It wasn’t even something I wondered about or was mad about. I thought it wasn’t for me.
but I look forward to the oncoming backlash from cis people from
London with no interest in archives worried about “young lesbians feeling unwelcome”
also this means the new acronym is AQA/AQuA which is sick as hell
