1) The vast majority of music teachers and heads have been working so hard to ensure that music has continued in schools. Music teachers' legendary problem-solving skills have been in full force; many of these solutions will remain post-Covid. #CanDoMusic testifies to this. https://twitter.com/GuardianEdu/status/1335571703313809411
2) Like all other areas of society, much has been beyond schools' control. Year groups are in bubbles; lunch breaks are staggered; social distancing/availability of spaces have restricted large ensembles; concerns about singing, wind & brass instruments have been widely reported
3) Mixed messaging from PHE and DfE about extra-curricular activities, together with tier systems and the second lockdown, has caused understandable nervousness and caution
4) As the report shows, there has been much less leeway for schools in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands. In some cases, singing is banned, as are ensembles. Schools are powerless to do anything about that, in those cases
5) Heads are under enormous pressure - let's listen (as musicians do), and work together to enable all children to access music in schools. http://candomusic.com  is full of practical resources, incl. risk assessments, as well as examples of schools where music is thriving.
6) If we all work in partnership, rather than telling people what to do or bashing schools who are trying their best in trying circumstances, then we will get to a position where every child #CanDoMusic. Advocate - persuade - partner - help!
7) The recommendations of this timely and excellent report from @ISM_music are all achievable, and will make a substantial difference to children's music education if implemented by @educationgovuk #CanDoMusic
