There are two large costs for any software company.

1⃣Go-to-Market: Cost to reach its target customers.

2⃣Engineering: Cost to build the product.

Go-to-market cost is a variable cost. You need to spend resources to acquire a new customer.

Whereas Engineering cost is a fixed cost. You might not need a new engineer to acquire a new customer.

GTM is getting expensive as the cost to acquire customers is increasing.

PLG tells us how to use product as the main vehicle to acquire, activate, and retain customers.

For Ex,

When you create a @Calendly account, your entire network is exposed to the product as they now use your Calendly Link to book a meeting.

Similarly, products such as Slack, Notion, Figma, Dropbox, WordPress, Loom, and others have used techniques to acquire new customers without spending money.
