I re-watched one of my favourite movies of all time Mr. India yesterday.
I believe Mr. India is one of the underrated movies of Hindi cinema and it didn't get it's due credit.
What could have been India's own Superhero movie series has just been remembered as a good 90s movie.
Its sad that it's not even in the list of top 100 Bollywood movies, even though it deserves to be there.
So let me tell you why I feel Mr. India is a so good.
For starters it has all the elements of a superhero movie, an underdog hero, an iconic villian, an equally strong heroine
Our hero Arun was shown as kind and empathetic
In the times when hero were shown as strong, they showed his vulnerable side
He had his weak moments and that's what makes him stronger,he has his losses and doesn't hesitate to take help when needed.
That's very relatable
My favourite character is Seema, she is headstrong, daring and doesn't wait for her hero to fight injustice instead takes the first step always to fight crime. Only few Indian movies have shown such strong female character and Sridevi's monologue as Charlie Chaplin is just amazing
I have never seen any other female actor doing a Charlie Chaplin piece.
Hats off to Sridevi for pulling it off
All the kids did good job and nothing felt over the top
Also the iconic dialogues of Mogambo 'Mogambo khush hua' 'Hail Mogambo' and the villian himself
Mogambo is the self obsessed Megalomaniac who wants to rule the world by creating chaos. A good match for our simpleton hero.
His side kicks Daaga and Teja, who are equally cunning and only cares for themselves.
All of the supporting cast did a good job in this movie
A 3 hour long movie doesn't seem lika a stretch and it's something you can watch anytime and be equally entertained.
I also feel few movies have taken ideas from this, like the wrong number phone of editors office as something similar was adopted by Hera Pheri
The only flaws I can find in the movie is after getting the gadget, no training montage is shown for Arun and he just all of sudden becomes this strong person to fight all the villian.
His relationship with his scientist father wasn't explored at all to build his origin story
Dr. Sinha just vanishes and never comes back to mentor Arun, which seemed a bit lazy writing. Other then that the movie is superb and I always watch it to have a good time.
It also has a good song album with songs like Hawa Hawai and the parody numbers
If you have watched Mr. India , go watch it again for a good time. If you haven't watched Mr. India then what are you doing go watch it now.
It's available on Zee 5
