i have worked 1.0 shift in the shoe department
shoeboxes are not a standard size. larger shoes of the same style get a larger box. so stacking them is like playing tetris where every piece is the yellow hotdog but it comes in different widths.
shoe boxes are also slippery. it is oh so easy for one shoe box to slide off the top of a stack. the lid pops off and the bungee-corded trash shoes along with several wads of tissue and malformed cardboard tumble down.
shoes are overpackaged. i don’t really see why they need a box at all, and they definitely don’t need cardboard forms and wads of tissue to hold their shape.
there is one way for shoes to fit in the box with the lid on: the 69 position with the soles facing out. this is like a iso standard of shoe shopping. upright, stacked, spooning, and back to back are all wrong. people seem unwilling to comprehend this.
it’s this lack of attention to detail that gets my goat. almost everyone at a suburban megastore has to have been to a shoe store at least one time per year since the age of 4. that is a lot of lived experience. people should know how to put shoes in a box.
the last thing i’ll say about shoe department is that product designers really do us dirty. there are at least 3 dozen styles and shapes of child sized shoes which all would need to be worn by humans age 10 and under.
so someone’s job is to come up with new ways for parents to fall victim to at least 1 style but realistically more like 3-4 of adorable fucking shoes for their kids every 8 months while the kid grows.
people want parents to be playing doll with their actual kids.
boys’ clothes and shoes are really something else. little fisherman sweaters and chukka boots and jeans. they start dressing buys up like little men at age 18 months in tiny versions of man clothes. same color palette and style.
they dress girls in bullshit. pink cowboy boots. knockoff uggs covered in glitter. bright purple leggings. shirts with sequins and tinsel on them. purses with beads and shit just to train you to carry a purse. it’s not fashion or art. it’s just indoctrination.
anyways everything you own and everything you have ever owned is garbage have a nice week
