Hey everyone! When I tested positive for covid, it was really hard to find any information about how to handle it besides “Don’t get covid and wear a mask” (which, yes, wear your mask!) but here’s a resource thread for if you or a love one tests positive
1.The most common symptoms are fever and a cough, but this virus is still so new it presents very differently in others. For me, it presented as change in my tastes and a stuffy nose, and I thought there was no way I caught it. A BIG indicator if you’re not sure is TASTE
2.If you can, get yourself a pulse oximiter. If you go below 95, it is time to go to the hospital. Try to test this frequently!
3. If you also can, get a thermometer!
4.Track these, your symptoms, and your vitamins/medication in a journal. It changes quickly, so you want to see when symptoms start, when they get worse, and how to isolate.
5.Vitamin C and ZINC. I lost my sense of taste and smell, and a lot of research I’ve done says that zinc can help with recovery.
6.PRONING. I learned about this from a video an ICU nurse made. You’re going to want to take a pillow and put it under your stomach, and do this whenever you can for 30 minute intervals.
7.If you need a break from proning, try sleeping on your side with a pillow under you, or propped up with a few pillows. You don’t want to lay on your back for extended periods of time.
8.Humidifiers are a gigantic help for inflamed sinuses.
9.Try opening the windows to let in air often, if you cannot go outside it’s important to still refresh the air around you. If you have anyone else in your home you are distancing from, this also helps!
10.Sleep, sleep, and more sleep! Sleep can help. I find one of the most stressful parts of having covid is worrying about all the possibilities of things that could go wrong or feeling like it’s a personal failure I got covid. Self care during this time is extremely important.
THIS POST IS NOT A “don’t worry it’s fine throw all caution to the wind because now you know what to do” post, This is an “in case of emergency, here’s the information I did not know”
Sending love to all of you, and I hope you all have a healthy and happy holidays!

And here’s her Instagram! Her tips about proning and rest have helped me and many others, ICU nurses are making incredible information videos https://instagram.com/thegalacticgardener?igshid=1ukdeydf5i1g4
WOW THANK YOU EVERYONE!
I’ll be adding more to this thread later with some of the advice you all have given me

Also of course a disclaimer: I am not a healthcare professional at all, these are just some of the things that have been working for me!
A gigantic thank you to all the nurses and respiratory doctors and medical professionals on this thread- TRULY thank you for all that you do!
Some things to add from others!: There aren’t a ton of studies on Zinc, and you want to make sure that you don’t take too much because of GI issues! Also, the pulse oximeter varies, and they say to get help if it’s under 90. This also depends on altitude!
Also a request from someone to say not to ignore gastrointestinal symptoms of COVID! “My bf was exposed, got tested, vomited for like 12 hours straight, and then had a really low appetite for a few days w/no other common symptoms and was +, I got it from him.” Stay safe!
I am isolating alone in my apartment in Brooklyn, but my parents tested positive and are isolating at their home. They have no smell/taste, no fever, no cough. Please send them well wishes because all I want is for my family to get better! Sending love to yours

Also BIG shout out to @itsbodypolitic, who’s been telling the stories of people who are covid positive snd have created a fantastic community. I’ve been following you for a while and admire you!
Just want to reiterate- the pulse oximiter depends on the altitude and severity, a lot of people recommend under 90! And vitamin D vitamin D vitamin D!
