Till about year 2000 Punjab remained top in per capita income, today it stands at 13th.
Lack of industrialisation, lack of modern service sectors like IT, financial services.
Punjab blessed with 99% irrigated land, India = < 50% & Maharashtra = 20% only, while Rajasthan =13% !

Lack of diversity in cropping patterns, livestock, poultry, dairy, fruits halls led to this dismal state !
States like TN, Kerala, Andhra have done exceptionally well despite not being leeches on govt subsidies & doles by adopting diversified crops, high value crops, poultry...

Even states of West Bengal & Himachal have done much better than Begging Bowls of Punjab !
Writing is on the Wall !
If Punjabis want to increase incomes they cannot hold govt to ransom but need to get rid of MSP based Wheat/Rice to high value crops & livestock !

Govt must make MSP redundant to get farmers out of clutches of the assured returns on guzzlers like Rice & Wheat.
Punjab farming can’t survive the methods used in 1960-80 in today’s world. The depleting water, soil & effects of fertilisers will spell the DOOM !
