SAHASRABAHU TEMPLE

In this thread I will tell about this beautiful temple and the dark history related to it.

Also Knows as Saas Bahu temple by Locals, this temple stands in Gwalior fort, it was Built by King Mahipaal who was a Kachchhapaghata Rajput in 1093 AD.

But it was totally destroyed by Barbaric invaders, this is how it lookd after centuries of defacing,

There is an inscription on this temple by British it says -

"This temple was cleaned and stripped off the chuna with which the Mah0medans had defaced it for centuries, By Major J.B.Keith, November A.D 1881Under the directions of Captain H.Coler E curator of ancient monuments in India"

British did clean it but they also established an Artillery battery right next to the temple, they had no "Respect" for temple, they restored it only to gain public support in Gwalior

Architecture of temple is of Bhumija style and reflects the beauty of Hindu architecture.

Idols of Vishnu, Devi and Brahma are found in the temple, the pillars were beautifully decorated with sculptures, even after centuries of defacing, the temple still holds its beauty.
