BAKIT NGA BA THEY ASSOCIATE SB19 TO KPOP?

A THREAD

DISCLAIMER: Di ako Psychologist or bihasa sa music. You can correct me. I like a healthy discussion.

Ano ba ang Pop genre?
Pop genre, or popular music, are those songs na catchy at madaling maalala. They usually share same features like beats, which our brain can recognize to easily associate them as pop.
@SB19Official
Ano ang Kpop?

Kpop o Korean pop is simply pop music na gawang Korea. It is influenced by several genre like R&B, electronic dance, hip hop, etc.

However, Kpop has dominated the pop music nowadays. It has evolved from simply a sub-unit of pop to its own genre.

PRAGMATICS
I was listening to my sister's lesson on Semantics and Pragmatics. So di ako expert pero... Nowadays, when we hear a pop music performed by a group and usually involves dancing, our brain automatic labels it as Kpop.
@SB19Official
HOW ABOUT WESTERN POP?
Bakit di natin maisip na iassociate ang western pop sa kpop? My guess is language. Kpop is Korean. But when you hear a pop song in a well-spoken English with western accent, your brain removes the impression of Kpop.
@SB19Official
Take for example Psycho by Red Velvet. What if Ariana Grande performed Psycho in full english? Will you still feel it as Kpop?
@SB19Official
Let's do another one, pero inverse.
Lady Gaga's Pokerface. Eto sikat na western pop song. What if Pokerface was performed by a Kpop group? Tunog western pa rin ba?
@SB19Official
This is what we call pragmatics. Our impression shifts based on what we know about a subject. Usually, if it is performed by a group with sing and dance with that familiar but universal beats which we have heard a couple of times, we take it as Kpop.
@SB19Official
Another example...

Bakit tunog anime ang Jpop?
Kasi we usually hear japanese music in anime. Kaya kahit hindi para sa anime yung kanta, kala natin from an anime.

Enter Philippines.
Philippines is not used to Filipino artists making pop beats na ginagamit all over the world (Kpop, western, etc.)

James Reid is one of the best pop artists sa Philippines pero his music is hindi masyadong tinatangkilik ng mga pinoy.
@SB19Official
Enter SB19
A "group of singers and dancers" who performs in pop beats. First impression of pinoys (na hindi sanay sa ganito) is Kpop genre sila. But since hindi Korean so feeling Kpop na lang. @SB19Official
Enter Fashion style.
They are under a Korean company. That was why the fashion style that was first imposed sa kanila was that which the management was used to: Kpop fashion style.
@SB19Official
SB19 Fashion style today.

SB19 has experimented on their fashion especially this year. They are finding that tatak PPOP style since we do not have one. Most of the times, they wear styles na we are familiar with kasi we've seen them internationally.
@SB19Official
OPM fashion is... non-existent. Kaya when SB19 dresses up as international performers, people ridicule them kasi "di nakagawian".

Same with their music, people are not used to it. Iba yung impression sa utak nila.
@SB19Official
Why I made this thread?
Two reasons.

1) For us to understand, why non-A'TIN have that impression sa SB19.

2) For us to educate them what they are missing. (half of their lives lol)

@SB19Official
With this, I hope for a future where Philippines could welcome every changes that come so we can walk through innovation side by side with the international music.
@SB19Official
I know SB19 is capable of bringing that change. They break sounds. They will bridge that gap Philippines has with the international music.

Kaya sayo na naniniwala sa SB19, teach our kapwa pinoys (in a kind way) that SB19 is paving the way & pop music is universal.
