Winter Meetings were different this year, but I am still appreciative of the opportunity to present and share some reflections and thoughts on the lessons learned during what was an unforgettable and wild 2020 season...
1- What Just Happened - After the season was over, I felt like I was hit with a ton of bricks and had that feeling of “what was that?!” It took me awhile to be able to process everything that just happened...luckily I had a LONG drive back to Florida...
2 - What Did We Learn - On my 30 hour drive back to Fort Myers from Minneapolis, I had plenty of time to reflect on the season that was and these were the 4 themes that myself and our performance staff kept coming back to...
3 - Mental Health - Theres no doubt there was added stress this year which resulted in more off field concerns surrounding how our players were coping. Thankful for our premier sports psych group!
4 - Distance Learning - Schools were not the only ones who had to go to distance learning…as we were shutdown, we were forced to get creative and go to a virtual setting...
5 - Back to the Basics - When cities and states and then gyms and facilities started closing, we had to eliminate the fluff and really get back to the basics of movement with at home training programs relying on what players had access to...
7 - The “Unknown” - We dont know what will happen moving forward, but we are better positioned to be able to handle whatever it is and we will adapt to whatever is thrown our way!
I appreciate all the work that went into these virtual winter meetings, it's not lost on me the time and effort that was needed! Hopefully next year we can do it in person!
