Rodeo vs Dirty Sprite 2: A track-by-track comparison

I originally wanted to make this a poll thread but I feel like results are usually inconsistent or biased so imma do a breakdown instead
Here are the tracklists for both. The deluxe version of DS2 has 2 more songs than Rodeo does and I don’t want this thread to be too long so I’ll be comparing their first 15-track run

I’ll try to be as fair as possible which won’t be hard because I enjoy these projects equally 🤝
1. Thought it Was a Drought vs Pornography

TIWAD is clear. T.I.’s narration is a great tone-setter for Rodeo and Travis has a super cold-blooded verse at the end, but Future’s opening hook LITERALLY had people buying Gucci flip flops in a craze. That’s power.
2. I Serve The Base vs Oh My Dis Side

ISTB is a nightmarish banger with ton of great lines from Future, but OMDS is what I consider a masterpiece of musical composition (i.e song structure: how verses, hooks and instrumental traits are arranged). The beat switch is legendary.
3. Where Ya At vs 3500

Drake & Future’s chemistry here was the prelude to their masterful collab but 3500 is easily one of greatest trap songs ever, period. It’s nearly 8 minutes of pure wizardry from Metro’s production & Future himself trades bars wit Travis/2 Chainz like Gods
4. Groupies vs Wasted

Here Future raps in a wild, animalistic manner over a growling beat that sends chills down my spine. Wasted is a dark/haunting song in its own right w/ a great verse by JJ, but Groupies makes you think your speakers bout to come alive... try it in a car 🥴
5. Lil One vs 90210

Lil One has one of my favorite hooks on DS2 but c’mon guys, this is disrespectful to 90210. Future only has one song that can beat 90210 (Codeine Crazy) but even then it’s debatable.
6. Stick Talk vs Pray 4 Love

DS2’s tracklist is full of catchy bangers & timeless hits but this is one example where Rodeo’s artistry overpowers that. Stick Talk’s a GREAT song to mosh too but Pray 4 Love’s hypnotic 5th dimension beat & standout verses from Trav take the cake.
7. Freak Hoe vs Nightcrawler

Future loses this one again, BUT, for what it’s worth, 90210/P4L/Nightcrawler is maybe the strongest 3 track run on Rodeo (besides Antidote/Impossible/Maria).

Anyone who’s heard both should agree Nightcrawler is clearly much better 🤷‍♂️
8. Rotation vs Piss On Your Grave

POYG isn’t a bad song and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise if you like it. However it’s def one of the weaker tracks on Rodeo & doesn’t match up to the calm simplicity that makes Rotation easy to love. Its mid-tempo flow and mellowed beat >>>
9. Slave Master vs Antidote

One thing Travis has mastered is beat switches & evolving song phases that always makes his tracks refreshing. The interlude on Antidote & the killer final verse breathes new life into the song. A criticism of trap music in general is how repetitive-
-it can sometimes get. And in this case Antidote is infinitely more dynamic, varied and ambitious than Slave Master, a great song in its own right.

No need to talk, take a listen for yourself. Can you keep track of how many transitions and vocal switchups occur in these 2 mins?
10. Blow a Bag vs Impossible

Impossible is one of the more underrated songs on Rodeo but Blow a Bag is truly an invincible anthem. A celebration of hood success, good excess & hedonism that trumps Travis’ somber nighttime ode.
11. Colossal vs Maria I’m Drunk

It broke my heart to do this because Colossal is one of MY personal favorite songs on DS2... but Travis is a excellent at putting people together and can’t nothing top Justin Bieber killing a trap ballad with Young Thug.
12. Rich $ex vs Flying High

A difficult comparison when I weighed all the variables; I do think Flying High gets too much flak and its high quality production is ignored, but it has a pretty flat hook and Rich Sex and has a much smoother melody.
13. Blood on the Money vs I Can Tell

I think BOTM’s quiet grooves & minimalism is it’s shortcoming here.

I Can Tell is Travis’ “I Serve The Base” - he delivers his best and most aggressive verses EVER against a cursed hellscape beat that sounds like it’s literally haunted.
14. Trap Niggas vs Apple Pie

Apple Pie has a really bright, sunny organ instrumental with some nostalgic bars from Travis that make it a great closer to Rodeo (esp. with Tip’s return) but I just think Future’s rapping & peculiar flow dominate the song. Sounds super drugged out.
15. The Percocet & Stripper Joint vs Ok Alright

Ok Alright’s a great song but my one criticism is that the “Alright” half is vastly better than the “Ok” half. I almost always skip to it. TPSJ is just pure bliss throughout. It’s relaxing, mystic, even therapeutic.
Out of the first 15 tracks

Travis - 8
Future - 7

Very close, & would probably even out if we considered the next songs, but Rodeo’s quality usually edges out DS2 in general for me.
