Approved 27k housing units annually for the last five years on average, saw 15k units built annually, saw 18k built annually including as-of-right construction, saw 56k units (per CMHC) under construction in mid 2020
Moved 17k housing units through site plan approval by October during this pandemic year to feed the construction pipeline now and for next year
Recently moved to list hundreds of heritage buildings already identified as resources in previous studies - just like many Ontario municipalities did this year - understanding that growth and our heritage are not mutually exclusive
Moved since April 30th (with provincial support) to advance over a 100 units of modular housing to pilot innovative rapid affordable housing for occupancy near year end & advanced thousands of affordable housing on City lands leveraged through market partners
Advanced Inclusionary Zoning proposals for affordable housing at income levels of essential workers built along side market housing because increasing density alone or by prescription that supersedes municipal OPAs in growth areas has not delivered mandated affordable housing
Is constantly reviewing process and practices, for service improvement and technical enhancement, acknowledging that both industry and government build cities in partnership for both existing and future residents
In short, Torontonians are out (virtually) every night of the week at community meetings and have been meeting for years as the city grows and changes to continue to accommodate hundreds of thousands of new residents and meet their needs - a very serious conversation indeed
