As someone who’s seen corporate side of things, a few signs you’ve been flagged:
1. Reviews immediately go from exceptional to average.
2. Manager’s tone suddenly, abruptly shifts without explanation.
3. Ongoing dialogue goes silent.
4. HR tone unexpectedly becomes friendly. https://twitter.com/ekp/status/1335737458751750144
5. Managers / other leaders stop engaging in dialogue over email, on Slack.
6. Discussions on your career progression or goals have a neutral tone.
7. Manager at some point asks questions like, “What are you really passionate about?”
8. ANY sudden change in responsibilities.
HR and Legal have evolved to protect company interests, so they will limit straightforward conversations about terminating you to phone calls. The approach is NOT always direct, but relies on cues and inferred “guidance” to fire because of risk you pose, so document EVERYTHING.
EVERYTHING!

1. Time and date of conversations.
2. Relevant emails / phone calls.
3. Meetings added or removed.
4. Meeting participants.
5. Removal of access to documents / shared drives.
6. ANY changes in managing status or direct reports.
7. ALL communication with manager / HR.
