Kids are playing a video game with friends on a voice call. One of the kids dads is a little strict no they have to behave in some ways, like no cursing. (That's not a rule in this house.) They were debating if 'goddamn' was a curse word. So....
I sat down and told them where the phrase 'curse word' comes from and profane and profanity to demonstrate that it's a pretty literal connection there. I don't care if they cures but I want them to understand context matters, people's feelings matter, and that they have to know
Exactly what they're saying, what it means, and why it's considered a 'bad word' or whatever. Words are tools, very few are absolutely not okay, and the any word you can use you should use it correctly.
...I guess I gotta break out the history and really explain why 'shit' is a bad word and so on, huh?
