Good medicine is not making things up 👇

If u wish to say kids w/ covid should get screening, show that screening improves outcomes

This entire article is a ton more medicine w/ ZERO data doing any of this will help anything other than hospital revenue

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/04/well/family/youth-sports-covid.html?referringSource=articleShare
There is no evidence that doing this will result in kids being better off

Run an RCT of this vs. usual care; actually, just run the power calc, and you will see the absurdity of the recommendation
Also an invented recommendation 👇

The default rec should be: Kids should resume exercise as they can tolerate/ desire

If you want to recommend this alternative plan, then randomize 10k kids to this plan or the default & page me when your trial reaches the futility analysis
Of course a tiny fraction of anyone with a severe illness can have long term organ damage, but the universal recommendation to see a cardiologist, etc, means that by seeing the cardiologist (PS appts are limited), you lower the risk of bad outcomes... zero evidence that's true
The burden in medicine is to prove your recommendation improves outcomes--ESPECIALLY a universal screening recommendation

Not to burden people with guilty-- preventing kids from playing, while waiting for coveted peds cards appts-- and running up the health care tab
I can't help fear that this is all just some misguided attempt to justify prolonged school closure, and frankly only accepted because rational thinking is at risk of extinction in 2020
One last point, many kids with asx covid may not even know they ever had it.

Is the next rec gonna be run multiple Ab assays on them, so you can ask them cardiac screening questions?
Ok, 1 more! this one is just so painful

Can u imagine a parent of a kid who recovered from Covid, and the kid wants to play, but the parent says no, no, no for weeks on end, while they wait for a pediatric cardiologist appointment in a city 4 hours away....

made up rec
We are a minute away from the American Association of MRI Machine Owners saying:

Anyone who ever had COVID or thought they had covid, should get a cardiac MRI before returning to work... or exercise... or sex... or walking up a flight of stairs... or you just need that MRI
