The pandemic has exposed our country and ourselves. I have permanently lost respect for many friends who have revealed themselves to be selfish, reckless and inconsiderate.
On the flip side, my respect for others has only increased, especially front line health care professionals and workers and fellow Americans who wear masks and stay at home just to protect their communities. My kids make me proud. They get all of it and wear masks. Ages 6 and 4.
The reason why I don't mind being judgemental and preachy on this issue is that we have a 4-year-old immuno-compromised daughter who survived Stage 4 cancer. We've been wearing masks and distancing since March. My parents haven't seen her or their newest granddaughter yet.
This pandemic has claimed nearly 300,000 (perhaps more) American lives. We are a pity of the world. During wars, a nation rallies & sacrifices. People send their children to die. All we have to do is wear a mask and be mindful, and many of us can't even bother. It's so painful.
All of this, ultimately, is to save lives. It's to protect your life, your loved ones, your community, your country. That's it.
