It is true. But it requires admitting other failures. Which Mandy himself won’t do, which is why this rings false. Was a soft Brexit ever spoken of seriously? No. But there’s a reason for that and nobody is interested in examining it. https://twitter.com/paulbernaluk/status/1334791331177254912
Imagine, for example, how the terrain changes if the Labour Party doesn’t have a six month meltdown over the factual statement that Article 50 will need to be triggered.
Imagine the terrain if the Labour Party isn’t the primary focus of the Westminster lobby for 4 years and, instead, extra scrutiny and pressure is put on Tory remain MPs to actually prioritise Brexit over their party.
Imagine if, rather than just shouting about how important FoM was to them suddenly, the Remain campaign had actually taken the time and effort to explain that it’s a two way street. Not condescendingly, but in an informative manner.
Imagine if the reality of the Brexit vote had actually been acknowledged - a repudiation of the Westminster status quo that had decimated whole regions, their economies, their communities and their life prospects via austerity and neoliberalism.
Imagine if someone had actually bothered to challenge Nigel Farage without just treating him as a joke but rather the dangerous fascist populist he actually is.
Imagine if the media had actually done some soul searching on how they aided and abetted to the fervent anti-immigration sentiment that grips the nation.
Instead what we got as a gaggle of war criminals, austerity supporters, literal bigots and bigotry pushers claiming some moral defence of the EU as some panacea for the U.K.’s domestic issues...
and on the other side you had war criminals, austerity artchitects, racists & fascists proclaiming with little challenge that the EU was basically a organisation enabling the dismantling of white supremacy through a migration policy that would see white ppl replaced in Europe.
Frankly you can all fuck off.
(Not you Paul. No offence, like)
