Studies show that most voters don’t review or notice inaccuracies on paper printouts from ballot marking devices (BMDs). They can be miscalibrated (making the touchscreen flip votes), or suffer screen freezes. They can be disproportionately distributed or fail to activate. 1/
Like all machines, BMDs are opaque, which can cause voters to become suspicious when things go wrong. Using BMDs 4 most voters is asking for more trouble, which we cannot afford. Our country can’t take it. 2/

5/ Merely instructing voters to review the BMD printouts didn’t help much. The only thing that significantly improved the error detection rate was if voters compared the BMD printout to a pre-filled slate, like a completed sample ballot, but most voters don’t know to do this.
