PLAY THE LONG GAME: a thread about change as we approach the new year...
I love my job. I actually can’t believe I get to do what I do. But it’s always important that I remind myself that none of it happened overnight. 2/
I didn’t wake up one day to brashly quit the gig I loathed. Nor did I suddenly walk away from didn’t sell everything I owned to ‘follow my passion.’ 3/
Instead, I made very small changes — imperceptible changes — over a very long period of time. 13 years to be frank. Or more like 23 years (depending upon how you look at it). 4/
It began with self-care. Valuing myself. Trying to breathe just a little more energy into the things that excited me. Investing in personal growth until I could reliably trust my intuition. Following my curiosity. And every once in a while, taking a small risk. 5/
Having faith was also (and still is) important. Honoring promises I made to myself. And then following through with more hard hard work than I ever imagined. 6/
As the new year approaches — and our minds inevitably turn to resolutions — I’m reminded that most of us vastly overestimate what we can accomplish in a year. And wildly underestimate what we can achieve in a decade. 7/
Bold gestures are great. But don’t let them be the enemy of mastering bit-sized interactions on self — because these are the true levers of lasting change. Critical for stepping into the person you aspire to be. 8/
In other words, if you seek to exceed your wildest self expectations, there's no getting around it. You gotta PLAY THE LONG GAME. end/
