My reaction to GR debut:

We knew before this the Merc is the best car. No questioning it. Immense public evidence of this.

We also knew that to those inside the paddock GR is thought of as the heir-apparent. There's a reason for that, but insiders have 10x the insight we do. 1/
Today I learned nothing new about the Mercedes. My opinion of how good the car is has not changed at all.

I did learn something new about GR, and my opinion on just how good he is has moved a step forward. 2/
There are 4 things I think about that the car doesn't account for:

1 - extracting max performance (esp in qual).
2 - execution, attitude in tense "moments" (start, restarts, stops, overtaking).
3 - awareness, adaptation to car & race as it progresses.
4 - sense of composure. 3/
Any driver at any team can be judged by these (they are the things you judge yourself on as a driver). Acing these areas w incredible consistency is why I think @LewisHamilton is the best. @GeorgeRussell63 showed remarkably well by the same criteria. 4/
So to me George's performance still told me much more about how good *he* is than it did about his car or anyone else.

A more exciting take might be "WeLl JuSt StIcK aNyOnE iN tHe MeRc!!" but the truth is not just anyone would have been in a position to win that race.
