Here we go #ClassicsTwitterMovie with First Blood (aka Rambo) (1982) !
Mario Kassar is one of the producers of Terminator. And the music is by Jerry Goldsmith. #ClassicsTwitterMovie
So our hero is a soldier returning home from Vietnam, remembering his fellow comrades, all of whom seem to be dead. So to fast forward to his arrival at “Ithaca” #ClassicsTwitterMovie
He will *not* be diverted from his home! And he is dirty and evidently unrecognizable as a fellow citizen for these men who want a home free of these returning warriors. And he has no name! #ClassicsTwitterMovie
He also has a scar! #ClassicsTwitterMovie
So our hero is now back in his home, but the suitors (cops) don’t realize yet they are walking in to a trap, set by this man of many tricks. #ClassicsTwitterMovie
This tarp cum tunic has transformed him into an Ancient Greek warrior! #ClassicsTwitterMovie
This is like the scene with golden floating Hermes and Armand Assante! #ClassicsTwitterMovie
Brian Denehey with some belated guilt. Of course the answer will be keep going. #ClassicsTwitterMovie
Very interesting to watch in terms of political alignment discourse. Stallone was (is?) famously conservative, this was seen as reaction to anti-Vietnam sentiment of the left by making a vet the good guy, but in terms of current debates around policing... #ClassicsTwitterMovie
This scene very reminiscent of the slaughter of the suitors, though Rambo uses non lethal attacks and again attempts to himself end the violence. #ClassicsTwitterMovie
Talk about an unreliable narrator! Don’t trust the media. #ClassicsTwitterMovie
Here come Athena in the form of Colonel Trautman! #ClassicsTwitterMovie
He hunts a boar 🐗! #ClassicsTwitterMovie
“That’s like bringing the pigeons to the cat.” 😹 #ClassicsTwitterMovie
This is his katabasis! He’s in the underworld talking to his former comrades! #ClassicsTwitterMovie
Ok, maybe *now* he’s really in the underworld. #ClassicsTwitterMovie
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade anyone? Which was nine years after this. #ClassicsTwitterMovie
The Sheriff and Trautman struggling over one of the central questions (if not *the* central question) of the Odyssey - “How do you stop the violence?” #ClassicsTwitterMovie
Her comes Athena again to stop the violence, once and for all! #ClassicsTwitterMovie
And we get actual PTSD from Rambo that we never got from Odysseus. #ClassicsTwitterMovie
Make up by Michael Westmore! Of Star Trek TNG, DS9 fame! #ClassicsTwitterMovie
Well friends, let me know what you thought! Odyssey reception, yes or no? Christmas movie, yes or no? Also, weigh in on movies for next week!! @apistone @TonyKeen46 @antianeirantics #ClassicsTwitterMovie
