Something I’ve started doing in ~these difficult times ~ is ordering desserts with my (ethical, local, not-predatory-gig-economy) delivery meals.
I started doing it to increase the value of my orders in support of local biz.
But it has been kind of profound. Bear with me.

like basically all women I know, I’m in recovery from disordered eating. The details are not important but I haven’t had a “normal” relationship w food since I was like 8.
I didn’t eat peanut butter for 2 years. I didn’t like eating in public. And I N E V E R had dessert.

So even the tiny act of being like “oh shoot this taco place has churros” has been kind of huge. Because it’s a very intentional middle finger to the internal and external forces that have told me that the best thing I could ever be in this life is thin.
I’ve eaten joylessly for my entire adult life, either because I was too poor for good food or because I was too afraid to enjoy it.
I can’t believe people have just been OUT HERE EATING TIRAMISU LIKE IT’S NOT A MASSIVE SIGN OF EMOTIONAL FREEDOM AND FINANCIAL STABILITY.

All of this is to say: If you can afford it, ORDER THE DESSERT.
And then just eat it! On your couch! Because who gives a shit! You’re allowed to enjoy your meals. You’re allowed to have nice, extra things.

And if you’re in the area, I can’t recommend @SizzlePie cinnamon knots enough. Truly a treat.
