My top song from the ENTIRE 2000s on Spotify is Almost There from The Princess and the Frog, so here’s a thread for all of you small business owners and entrepreneurs out there.
I have wanted to be a writer since I was about six years old. No matter what other passions I chased or things I learned, I wanted to be a writer more than ANYTHING.
I used to spend all of my free time writing and exploring stories. I wrote blogs, little newspapers, books, poetry, and everything else I could try, but I was always afraid that it wasn’t there yet, that people wouldn’t like my work.
And at first, I wasn’t there. But, I went with it. I kept learning, growing, and trying.
Eventually, I started to get better. I could feel it. I decided it was time to put myself out there and see if I could make any money writing, so I joined a freelance site and started trying my hand at various projects.
I started working two jobs, juggling my corporate job with a budding freelance career. It was a lot of hours and a lot of work. I was tired a lot and I was always busy, but I knew it would be worth it in the end.
I kept waiting for the moment where I could be a full-time creative and the thought of it kept me going, kept me working hard even when I watched other people take it easy—even when I told people it was just a side gig and I wasn’t actually THAT committed.
Things did not go perfectly. I dealt with a few rough clients, long hours, and the struggles that come with being the entrepreneur in a group—your friends likely won’t understand what you are doing or all the work you put in. That can be hard and isolating.
But sometimes, you meet someone who thinks all that work is pretty fancy and wants to help you reach that final goal. There are so many times I wanted to quit and didn’t because I had that support. It’s invaluable. I’m grateful.
But, I did it. I spent the last eleven years listening to that song on repeat and working hard, and I’m a full-time creative now. Writing is my life. I have my own place, and you can too. I hope you’ll make it happen.
Big shoutout to @fiverr for giving me that place and making it easy for me to get started. That first step was the hardest, but you guys made it approachable. I’m proud to be a Top-Rated Seller on your site. Thanks for letting me make stuff.
