Some thoughts on Sindh Culture Day today. Its Assembly was first to support Pakistan resolution in 1946. Sindh was only part of subcontinent conquered by Arabs but despite Arab rule up to 1010 AD its people retained their culture and language instead of adopting Arab culture.
Allotment of fertile barrage lands to civil-military bureaucracy and one unit of 1955 shook people of Sindh, enhanced their political consciousness. They realized that neither title of ‘Babul Islam' nor helping make Pakistan had helped them realize their aspirations.
Sindhis rightly proud of Indus civilization, rightly regarding Mohenjo Daro as a symbol of their past. Voices r now heard that Sindh was conquered not for religion but by expansionist ambitions. Invaders whether from Iran, Arab, Afghanistan, Delhi are now seen as oppressors.
Pakistani centrists pedaled Sindh's past as un Islamic, Sindhis were advised to shun it in name of patriotism & religion. But Sindhis rightly said NO. Their past is a matter of pride not only for Sindhis but for all Pakistanis. Let's all celebrate Sindh Culture Day, Zindabad
