Saddened to learn in our 10th month we have the highest reported weekly deaths from CL. All summer, the NC powers made statements regarding testing of the staff and residents. If this has happened no one knows because nothing as been released regarding this progress.
Early August Cohen stated that staff to be tested every 2 weeks and weekly in outbreak settings. Is this being done? I’m sure it is a logistics nightmare for facilities that are already understaffed to accomplish this.
I’m curious, since Cohen has stated contract tracing is not working, why some of the tracers can’t be switched to service CL facilities. Help the facilities to set up a testing day for all employees either weekly or biweekly. If an employee comes in on a day off,
the facility pays for their time and submits an expense report to their csr for reimbursement. CARES money (which is expiring 12/31) could be used to cover these labor costs and should already be used for all testing at both private and state facilities.
maybe track these results and give rewards to staff at facilities that keep themselves and residents safe. I’m sure I will hear all reasons why this won’t work, but what we’ve done for the past 10 months hasn’t protected CL.
