Ministry of Education's decision to move early grades (1-3) to mosques has created concerns and worries. Here is how this will help. Yes, I do think it is not as bas a move as u think. First, this decision is about those areas where there is limited/no access to schools.
In such areas community-based education (CBE) classes have already been used and tested largely with positive effects. A CBE class in a village is either in a villager's house or in a mosque. NOGs or the MoE provides teacher training, salary, and stationary. CBE graduates then-
go on and attend schools usually after grae 3. However, CBE classes have benifitted only a small fraction of children who don't have access to schools. MoE's plan to move early grades to mosques in such areas ensures, at least, that ALL children will get early grades education.
As for the quality part, this is CBE in a larger scale. CBE proved effective than public schools in terms of academic achievement. There is a lot of rigorous research on this. Some of the CBE classes are in mosques with Mullahs employed and trained as their teachers.
If MoE and donors manage it properly, this is therefore not going to be as bad a move as you think it is. On the contrary, this will help millions of children gain access to education at the early grades level.
