/ THREAD: When to Panic Sell #FUT #PateauThreads
/ As much as you try to prepare for every situation, once in a while something unexpected happens that makes you question whether to panic sell. Let's look at some examples from this weekend to see when you should and when you shouldn't panic sell.
/ On Friday EA released TOTGS. In that team was Theo Hernandez. I had an IF Theo in my club as I didn't expect him to be in TOTGS. The first thing I did when I saw the team announced was to panic sell IF Theo. Why was this a good decision?
/ Because IF Theo was in TOTW2. He had risen in price from 80k in packs to 145k at the time of TOTGS announcement. He rose because he is rare. TOTGS is about to supply the hell out of a better card, eliminating that rarity. IF Theo is about to be permanently impaired in price.
/ The cheapest IF Theo on the market at announcement was 145. I listed immediately for 125k and it sold instantly. Could I have gotten say 135k? Maybe. But I understood that I had to guarantee a sale on the first listing and needed to list for a big undercut to do it.
/ If you don't sell a card like this immediately, by the time you can relist it in an hour it will have been undercut hundreds of times, and the price will have already plummeted. You cannot undercut by 1k and expect it to sell on the first listing, gotta go bigger.
/ This is now the price of IF Theo. At no point did he or will he recover to anything close to his pre TOTGS price. Panic selling in this situation saved me 33k.
/ The takeaway here is that when a card has been permanently impaired in price, you should panic sell immediately BEFORE the price reflects that impairment. Undercut by a decent amount to guarentee the sale on the first listing.
/ Conversely, the market saw a few hours of massive panic selling overall yesterday morning. Many cards dropped 25-30% in a few hours. Should you be panic selling in a situation like this? No, you shouldn't.
/ Typically when panic is market wide, there is a recovery afterwards once the panic dies down. You don't want to be selling cards into a crashing market. The correct thing to do yesterday was to not panic and sell in the subsequent recovery. Many cards recovered yesterday.
/ TLDR: Don't panic sell in general market panic. Panic sell if your card has been permanently impaired in price and price DOESN'T yet reflect impairment. Some examples of permanent impairment: RTTF eliminated, OTW season ending injury, rare card replaced by non-rare card
