Brian Stanley's tweet was a criticism of neoliberals like ("Tory") Leo Varadkar who pinkwash socio-economic policies like austerity, public spending cuts and wage-freezes that harm ordinary people and communities less well-off than the affluent ones those like Varadkar come from. https://twitter.com/RomanShortall/status/1334517345176473600
"U can do what u like in bed" refers to sex, but it's directed at the indefinite "you"; not at Varadkar. It's a sarcastic parody of those who rely on identity politics (supporting gay rights and waving a rainbow flag) to mask their nasty neoliberalism (denying workers pay-rises).
It's unfortunate an old tweet, lifted out of context and misrepresented as anti-gay by an establishment reliant on divide-and-rule, has led to some in LGBT+ community to feel alienated by a party that's made great electoral strides advancing left politics. https://twitter.com/DanielCollins85/status/1335608900524105730
I'd appeal to those on the left who've interpreted Stanley's tweet as homophobic to reflect on the tweet's possible meaning again and have a think about what the establishment are trying to do to opposition. And may we all take heed of @TadhgHickey's words. https://twitter.com/TadhgHickey/status/1335246157380001794
