Sunday Morning Thread: If the Conservative Party won’t listen to the environment concerns being raised by David Crombie, perhaps they would take a couple of minutes to listen to former Toronto Mayor, Rob Ford. 1/
Rob Ford served on Toronto and Region Conservation Authority’s board of directors for almost eight years, and his request for reappointment for an additional four had been granted by the City of Toronto, months before his untimely death in March 2016. 2/
When Rob Ford passed, TRCA issued a statement noting that he had: “...dedicated himself to the fiscally responsible operation of our organization in protecting and preserving our nature and diverse species.” 3/
The statement continued: “A vocal champion of the taxpayer, Mr. Ford was known for his passionate desire for efficiency in all TRCA initiatives.” 4/
In his prime, Rob Ford worked tirelessly day in and day out to derail the gravy train, because every dollar saved could be reallocated back into the pockets of taxpayers - He was a true fiscal Conservative. 5/
At the same time, Rob Ford was able to recognize the vital role that TRCA played as an apolitical organization, even when TRCA rejected his attempt to buy parkland to expand his own property. 6/
Rob Ford saw firsthand the horrors of flooding across Toronto, including on the islands, the downtown core, the Lower Don Parklands, and in Rockcliffe, causing billions of dollars in damages. 7/
Rob Ford valued the importance of the relationship between the City of Toronto and TRCA, to protect their residents, their properties and infrastructure. 8/
Rob Ford appreciated that conservation authorities are the first line of defence in preventing and reducing the impacts of flooding, which just so happens to be the leading cause of public emergency in Ontario. 9/
In memory of Rob Ford’s efforts to represent conservation authorities, a noble endeavour that he continued up until the end of his life, I am respectfully requesting that the Province remove Schedule 6 from Bill 229. 10/
Please share this thread and be sure to tag the Premier, Ontario’s Ministers and your local MPP, to let them know how you feel. It’s time to go viral to stop Schedule 6, because #ConservationMatters. 11/11
