The F-lighters were a very successful design that served the Kriegsmarine in multiple roles throughout the war. Their design was influenced by the absence of a dedicated landing craft for Operation Seelöwe, the planned invasion of England in 1940. @SeaSpitfires @NickHewitt4
The Italian navy acquired the design and constructed copies of these vessels, designated MZ (Motozattere), with the first one (MZ701) laid down in March 1942. They used Italian armament and diesel engines. @ITM_archives @FPozzar @MikiAV8BHarrier http://conlapelleappesaaunchiodo.blogspot.com/2014/01/mz-701.html
