1. A short study in propaganda.
This is a concentrated dose of how the British government tried to spin the emergency authorisation of a vaccine: a national triumph. https://twitter.com/rachaelvenables/status/1334418762909487106
2. John Skeritt, Deputy Secretary, Health Products Regulation Group for the Therapeutic Goods Administration, Australia’s vaccine regulator, gives a jab of reality. This is how much of the rest of the world views Britain’s situation.
3. Why does it matter? For some reason the UK government is presenting the vaccine as an endpoint. It might be, but Deputy CMO Jonathan Van-Tam gives a more realistic assessment. https://twitter.com/adamhamdy/status/1334420190289915906
4. The most likely outcome is that vaccines become part of our effective measures against #COVID19

Another slice of cheese. https://twitter.com/mackayim/status/1319901144836026368
5. Rather than triumphalism, which encourages people to loosen their belts and breathe sighs of relief, leading to scenes like this in London yesterday.
6. A responsible government would inform people of the reality that faces us as a consequence of the policy choices it made. Countries that were alarmed by #COVID19 and took it seriously are now reaping the rewards. https://twitter.com/champchong/status/1335218340919328769
7. The UK, US and most of Europe now face indefinite restrictions, continuing loss of life, long-term public health challenges, and economic damage. Plus risks other countries don’t even have to think about... https://twitter.com/k_g_andersen/status/1325149383931822081
8. I wrote about some of those risks here: https://twitter.com/bylinetimes/status/1333759910799151108
9. Propaganda is questionable at the best of times. During a pandemic it is positively dangerous. I think the public will grow tired of government misinformation - sing Happy Birthday, mass events are safe, Eat out to Help Out, masks aren’t effective, normal by Christmas etc.
10. As we see more countries enjoying the fruits of #ZeroCovid policies and realise vaccines aren’t a panacea and that continuing restrictions will be necessary, I believe there will be growing calls for better public health policy.
11. It is government policy, not any unique aspect of the virus or the British people, that has meant we can’t be like Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam and others. The same government that is propagandising its failures as successes.
12. We know what works. It is never too late to implement effective public health measures, but we need a government that delivers honest and effective leadership and isn’t obsessively focused on peddling balderdash. https://twitter.com/adamhamdy/status/1316513055250026497
