Yo this is a bad take.

1. The number one reason that kid got ID’d was because half the fucking “left” in this city shared his photo and denounced his actions because he was white, completely ignoring the fact that most of the militants that fucked that cop car up were black. https://twitter.com/ohip13/status/1335490876483792896
2. The burning of that cop car should absolutely be celebrated. Not just because most participants are still at large, or because it is often pointed to as “the” spark that lead to hours of looting and rioting, but also because it represents a shift in Pittsburgh protest tactics.
3. These shifts don’t happen overnight. Street militancy takes generations to sharpen. It makes no sense to single out this kid’s security culture as being “bad” - how many crews actually went prepared in bloc? How many in Pittsburgh have much experience in street fighting?
4. It’s been so long since anything serious has popped off in Pittsburgh, it’s doubtful that anyone who hasn’t been down for more than a few years even remembers the (relatively tame) blocs of 2016/2017, let alone 2003, 2009 and 2014. ...
I admire the courage of everyone who allegedly acted that day, because I know it was many people’s first time. The fact of the matter is that most people don’t learn about security culture until shit gets real and we start taking ourselves seriously. It sucks but it’s the truth.
Don’t be hand-wringing about the actions of a kid who was brave enough to do what fucking NEEDS to be done.

Anyone who takes this movement seriously know that you can take all the precautions in the world and still end up getting raided, evicted, arrested, followed, doxxed...
Yes, we must view each instance of repression as an opportunity to sharpen our collective security culture knowledge and broader countercultural memory.

But we must also celebrate and honor those who have acted and now face the consequences of acting.
