I'd helped start a camp in one city, but nearby cities also had camps. We networked to share info/supplies, and all got to know one another. The guy who'd spearheaded starting a nearby camp was a lot like me at the time - disillusioned Obama voter, Leftist, still learning. [2/?]
A lot of us added one another on social media, and some kept in touch post-Occupy. In the years that followed, I started to see this guy blaming Occupy's failures on different things, including various groups who made up the very diverse 'occupy coalition' [3/?]
Soon, he was just blaming it on the shortcomings of the Left in general.
Occupy had collapsed for a whole lot of reasons, but he became fixated on chiding the larger Left as being too worried about LGBTQ issues, too worried about BIPOC issues, etc. [4/?]

At first it was 'We need to achieve the greater good, which will in turn help them' thing. Noble in intent, maybe, if not something that made you squint a bit.
But it got angrier. Not just blaming these groups and their issues, but invalidating them. Then mocking them.[5/?]

Eventually the slurs started and he altogether abandoned criticizing the Right. He had even begun to share from Right-Leaning sources, for after all they were the best place to find articles/memes attacking the various vulnerable and minority groups he was targeting. [6/?]
I cut ties around then, tired of seeing it. Fast forward a couple years when I encountered him again and, you guessed it, full on Hard-Right.
It doesn't just happen by chance. Fascists thrive on Leftists 'doompilling' or being otherwise disillusioned into infighting. [>]

Dem Presidencies are prime recruiting time for the fash because they know a lot of Leftists and Liberals will spend 4 years screaming at one another. The Right will be largely forgotten by a lot of these people, and meanwhile Lib and Lefty alike will get angrier.[>]
And that's where the Anna Slatz and Aimee Therese figures appear. The 'Post Leftists' who spend all day every day shrieking about the 'woke Left' and how we're all too lost in idpol to ever succeed, how we just need to stop caring what folks like trans people think, etc. [>]
As the picture above shows, this isn't new. It's fascism 101 inverted. The 'real' enemy, my dear disillusioned Leftist, isn't some scary outside group - it's those pesky disabled people, or indigenous people, or non-binary people, or so on. They're stopping you from WINNING! [>]
And so you do your infighting & now you're all a little weaker. But wait, Aimee and Anna and their ilk say, there's not even really a fascist threat out there! It's made up!
So all the people saying they're "antifa" are just brainwashed or using you. Toss them out, too! [>]

The pushback on this creates a bunch of disgruntled people, and many fall into the orbit of the Aimees and Annas.
It's not coincidence that they work the hardest to pry off white men, btw, who the "it's all the wokes who are failing you" rhetoric is aimed at.

And what do you know, it just so happens a lot of very Far-Right people just so happen to be in that same orbit too. What a coincidence!

And oh boy, you're just so pissed off and isolated and doesn't it feel good to just type a bunch of slurs at one of those darn blue-haired SJWs woke-oids who ruined your life? Oh hey, look, invites to discords with lots of black sun imagery for some reason! A new community![>]
It's going to happen, it's already happening, and you know exactly who is doing it. We have to be vigilant here, my friends. Keep your eyes on the ball, and remember that ours is a movement of love and optimism that only moves forward when we walk together.
