#RUFC fans need to realise it’s not as simple as just replacing Warney. There is a huge knowledge gap between the board and the football side of the club. PW has been the first manager under TS to be able to fill this gap while also running the first team. 1/7
Making a training ground fit for purpose, sorting the way a club recruits new players and instilling a club ethos are huge tasks that don’t fall to a first team manager to sort out outside of grassroots football. Warne has been able to successfully deliver these at this level 2/7
Successive managers have neglected these issues to concentrate on what pays their bills - results on the pitch. The board, for all the great things they have done, doesn’t have the football expertise to identify these sorts of issues, or would have addressed them much earlier 3/7
I fear egos don’t allow the appointment of a football man to the board. An appointment that would have likely prevented us signing Blackstock, Odemwingie etc and appointing Stubbs and Redfearn. While ever Warne is manager, it’s not an issue as he carries out both roles. 4/7
We know what we lose if Warne leaves the club for good. An incredibly committed and hardworking bloke, someone who really gets the club and its supporters. We risk losing the club’s ethos. We also reopen the huge gap between the board and the new management team 5/7
Moving PW upstairs is unlikely though as it requires both him and the board to acknowledge their limitations. Recruiting a decent replacement could also be problematic as the new boss would have to work to some degree with the old one. Would that be a deal breaker for some? 6/7
But the status quo is not good enough. Over 1/4 of the season gone and we’ve put in 1 decent performance. We have failed to have a shot on target from open play in 4 games I think. Managers get sacked for runs like this. Our problem is, like the first team, we have no Plan B 7/7
