The conflict was always there wdym? The signs were there if you payed attention to the episodes leading up to episode 11. The way it's resolved is realistic, and it's not pointless, if you payed attention at all to the episodes before 11 you'd understand the point. https://twitter.com/guyyohane/status/1335413046399873024
The conflict presents itself very clearly in Episode 10. For most of the episode You is elsewhere meanwhile Chika and Riko spend time together. When You finally gets a chance to speak to Chika, Chika brushes off You's question, and You notices what's been going on
From the beginning of the anime, we know that all this time it's been Chika and You. Chika was the closet friend You had up til when Aqours formed, so when all these other people become involved in her only close friend's life, it makes sense to why You starts feeling left out
We're shown that You's feelings are justified by the fact that Mari and Kanan didn't even know You was with Chika when Aqours started, they assumed it was Chika and Riko. Dia was the only one who actually knew it was Chika and You for obvious reasons.
Right after we're treating to a scene of You talking to Mari. This makes sense when you think about episode 9 two episodes earlier. Mari had to deal with Kanan not communicating with her and just assuming things, which is exactly what You is doing.
In episode 11 we're able to draw connections to Episode 9, the conflict of the third years relationship. The conflict isn't out of nowhere, the conflict is the lack of communication that's been going on. We see the worst of it being portrayed with the third years.
We see a different side of this portrayed with the second years. Unlike Kanan, You doesn't understand how she feels, she just started assuming things, so how can she even communicate how she feels when even she doesn't understand?
Speaking with Mari and Riko helps You understand her feelings and her place as a member of Aqours, and she finally communicates how she feels to Chika. The past 3 episodes had a conflict, and this episode is the resolution to that conflict: The Lack of Communication in Aqours
Episode 11 is a beautiful episode, and I hope I was able to explain why everything makes sense in it.
I also have a full thread about You's character, which you should read if you're interested
