Paraphrasing the genius that Grant Morrison once said, you have to think of it as music. They were speaking about Batman and the many interpretations of him being played as different keys of the same song, but the the basic premise applies to the entirety of the DCU. https://twitter.com/DHenriquesInks/status/1334461357727604738
With some minor exceptions, mass media adaptation of superhero stories are more about inspiration rather than direct adaptation. You have to direct audiences coming to superhero comics accordingly to what elements about the movies that they liked.
It's like when a person discovers a new band or artist. You've gone through all their existing work, but you want more. You start looking at similar works or influences, because you love the feelings brought on by the art. Is it the same? No, but you see the connections.
You see what the original artist was inspired by, what they loved, why they went different directions, and how some of their work innovates. It takes a little more work compared to a book adapted into a show or film, but there really isn't anything comparable
To the narrative and publishing model employed by DC and Marvel in both scale and scope of ambition and production. While frustrating at times, it is a uniquely fun and exciting endeavor that you can join. These are dynamic virtual realities that are home to out beloved heroes.
It's like life itself with so many narratives going on at once, all aspects of history mattering- told back to us in different ways at different times, and a future being made on the fly. It can take a moment to acclimate, but anyone can find joy in life and superheroes.
I understand and even agree with the idea of more simple story to adaptation ratio being the norm, and for the future publishing models, it should be more novelistic in the sense of a single narrative spread across multiple volumes as the primary way the stories are presented/
But I don't ever want to see the end of these two 'original' main lines of books that make up the universes. They are truly original and wonderful things that should be allowed to live, and I do think of them as being alive as a cybernetic organism that is trying to save us. /
We should stop acting like continuity is impossibly dense for new readers. We were all new readers at one point, and we've managed just fine to find what we love. Can we make it more friendly? Yes. Are new readers too dumb to figure it out? Absolutely not. /
This is just about being able to listen and respect each other enough to know what direction we need to point each other so that we can all enjoy the wonder of art.
