Okay, okay: AUTISTIC people this time.

Is it fairly obvious to you Beth Harmon is autistic? Why or why not?
To me it's a lot of movement and vocal pattern things. She moves like me as a kid. She's not comfortable in clothing the way other girls are. She has familiar vocal patterns to me, and takes processing time before giving even simple responses...
...like she has to process either what was said to her, or what the expected response is, or both. Aspects of her hypercontrol, as someone else mentioned, over her life and how she presents to others are familiar.

And her visualization patterns. 2/
To me it's hard to put down her oddness as entirely due to trauma, b/c frankly, most of the other girls in the orphanage would be traumatized. But she's not like them.

And it's not just her obsession & prodigal talent w/ chess, b/c we meet a lot of other chess savants... 3/
...but she's not really like them, either.

She's awkward at anticipating & managing others' expectations *long* past the point when other characters in her circumstances for similar reasons are. 4/
The way she has such an intuitive and precise grasp of the rules of chess, but keeps having to pick up more macro conventions totally on the fly. 5/
And of course, the total Greta Thunberg she pulls on Borgov in ep. 5. (I don't want to spoil it too much because it's such a good moment I gasped.) 6/
