Well Twitter, it’s been a few days in my world. I mean it’s really been a few days.
Middle son suffered a cluster of grand mal seizures on Wednesday morning. Five to be exact. Ambulance to the U of A hospital where he was put into a medically induced coma & intubated. 1/

He was in that state until Friday morning, when he was weened off the sedatives, tube taken out, & transferred to the neurology ICU. Multiple tests and an MRI later, docs still can’t identify the cause of the seizures.
Now he’s isolating for 11 days in my basement. 2/

It’s been a very scary 4 days for all of us. Middle son is still exhausted and sore everywhere (seizures are so hard on a body), & has swollen lip & tongue from biting down during the seizures.
But he’s home. In his old bedroom. Where I can mother the eff out of him. 3/

So why am I sharing his story (with permission)? Because this is why it’s so important we do our part to minimize spread; there are non-COVID injuries and illnesses and diseases that our healthcare workers are still trying to treat as our hospitals fill up with COVID patients. 4/
As our hospitals hit maximum capacity and ICUs are pushed to the limit with COVID cases, we increase risk for non-COVID patients, too. We need to remember this.
Mask up. For the love of Zeus MASK UP. Stay home when you can. Don’t socialize. You know all of this. So do it. 5/

Sincere gratitude to the EMTs who treated my boy & got him to hospital, and to the amazing frontline workers & doctors at the U of A ICU who not only treated middle son expertly & kindly, but kept me in the loop because I couldn’t visit him.
