A thread about a Bessiebelle farm clearing sale we visited today.

Take a wander back in time with me.
Its a mixed offering all on a rural theme.

#countryclearingsale

First thought was how the cold/wet makes us pull on the serviceable colours!
This beautiful hammer made me recall the big canvas tents like used to be seen at Ag & Pastoral Shows.

For a moment I was back there holding Dads hand watching the big tatooed men wielding these huge hammers & belting in the enormous metal pins that held the ropes.
If you stooge about enough at these sales you hear others talking about their ideas for things many here would biff on the fire pile.
Like two old gates plotting to go together as a bedhead for a rustic theme airbnb in Port Fairy.

I agree that this would look spectacular.
Irvines Wines is a very old Barossa brand.
You can almost hear the scuffling of the established wine circles of Europe when in 1873 they won gold.

It a good reminder of how, from land never before producing wine, pioneer viticulturalists took on the challenge of isolation.
The good old days...yeah nup.

Sacks of fert unloaded in cargo nets off boats over the wharf.
With little cranes & the risk of a bundle breaking as it swung out of the hold.

Superphosphate enabled the low fert native pastures of Bessiebelle area to be wrestled from the bush.
Kenricks 3 gallon cast iron cooking cauldrons, so rusted out they couldnt have held a boiled camel @wimmerachic
😆😆

Kenricks began making buckles in the late 1700s. They still manufacture more modern equipment on the same site.
Something evocative about tin wool bale stencils.

Ive often imagined a large stairwell void in a sheep related business, where many of these stencils are clipped together over a light scource like a large bale, so the light is enclosed & shines the names out into the space.
VICTA - such an iconic brand isnt it.
These made 1966 - 78 had a unique double helix reel.
The advantage of this reel lay in the
configuration - with half the reel spirals mirroring the other half - grass would
be deflected to the centre of the catcher which sat at the front.
