The idea that differences in historical land tenure systems can generate physical distinctions in the land *that stark* should blow anyone's mind. Our *categories* carving up and shaping the world!
This happens *whenever* we categorize, but the effects aren't usually visible from space.
Anyway, different kinds of categorization effects like this are all I think about anymore, so.
