DRIVEWAYS: A gorgeous and intimate exploration of the minutiae of existing with others; of the relationships we make and ignore, the paths that lead us away from and towards each other, and all the little things we cherish and regret. Just a wonderful sensitive piece of cinema.
No one should be surprised to know I was on the verge of tears for a grand portion of this movie (and actively cried at the last shot before the credits scenery). Hong Chau, Brian Dennehy, and Lucas Jaye are all phenomenal in this, doing so much with so little.
Anyway, as a Sensitive Child, it was an absolute pleasure to see myself in a child in film. Recoiling from wrestling, being overwhelmed at the world around me, reading manga, and playing bingo with old folks. Sincerely can’t get over how much I adored Lucas Jaye in this.
Also! Aside from looking gorgeous, I would also like to note that this movie features one of the best scores of the year. Jay Wadley wrecked my heart. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRW80bBvVD3WF8i-KTzgvDqswdKvcQDDz
That’s all from me being an emotional wreck after watching DRIVEWAYS—one of my favorite movies of the year—so thanks @AndrewAhnFilms for making yet another lovely piece of cinema.
Oh! Actually! I would like to make a note that I absolutely looked up this manga trying to figure out what it was (because I did not know it) before rewinding and reading “story and art by Andrew Ahn” and now I want to know everything about Kinoshita Heart Castles!
