PROPOSAL: Journals hire full-time professional peer reviewers and compensate them equitably. This opens opportunities for folks with PhDs who do not want to be professors, and work can be done remotely. Professors can continue their streams of research unburdened by peer review.

Fascinating to see the responses to this tweet! Fundamentally, I think that the demands on academics are unreasonable, and we must critically consider who benefits from our labour. This is, I believe, one way to reduce the burden on professors, but all ideas are good ideas!
