Nintendo makes amazing games and treats their dev teams so well, so what is this bizarre and hostile stance to the competitive communities of their game?

Remember, this is over shutting down tournaments possible due to fan made top notch rollback on a game -not sold-

As long as we’re bringing Splatoon up, the Splatoon 2 community was willing to support the sequel despite a major hit to the overall responsiveness of the game that made it feel much worse to play and compete in

This is of course taken for granted by Nintendo

Many are a little more mad than usual about all of this because Melee is important to their personal journey in gaming, game dev, competitive gaming, etc - myself included

We are seeing a game that was pivotal to who we are today being litigated out of a LONG AWAITED golden era

It is no exaggeration that all Nintendo has to do is.. nothing, here, for things to be the best they've ever been for Melee and it's 20 year competitors, and they are failing

And we will remember that in coming years as Nintendo launches new games and consoles, I don't need em

There's a strange and consistent undercurrent to this conversation that "Melee doesn't make them money"

Yeah, because Nintendo isnt selling it

Like I mentioned elsewhere, Nintendo has the ability to partner with Slippi and formally re-release Melee with rollback, but they arent

And until they do, there is no legal way to play melee online

And you can't attend in person events and play Melee offline right now because there's a pandemic, and even when you can it is extreme privilege to be able to travel to these offline events

This conversation doesn't really need a devil's advocate

There is no purpose to defending Nintendo's decision to shut down Slippi events

It's hostile to people who have spent their lives in love with Nintendo's great games and it does nothing for Nintendo or it's communities
