{thread} Yesterday my son and I headed out for an archeological dig along the River. A few years ago I found an old illegal dump that appears to go back to the 1930’s and operated into the 80’s. We decided to see what we could find. #Homeschooling #SurvivingThePandemic
{thread} Our first find appears to be an old glass insulin/injection bottle!! Nearby we also found this corked bottle with an applicator. No idea what was in it!!
{thread} We didn’t find any whole dairy bottles which can be valuable but we did find pieces that can tell you about the area and help date the time period! Plus they’re cool 😎

Hemond Dairy - Mechanic Falls, ME
E. H. Goss- ?? Dairy Farm
{thread} None of this was keepable but old branding really helps you understand the time period, the area and what was going on in folks lives. Who remembers the sardine can with a key?
{thread} Old drink bottles are awesome especially when they have enamel branding instead of stickers. Lots of cool old bottles. Anyone recognize any of these brands let us know!!
Liebmann Brewery Brooklyn NY
Up-Town Soda
Mt. Zircon Beverage Co.
???
{thread} And all cleaned up:
{thread} Here’s some interesting odds and ends we found!! Anyone able to help date some of these? I thought the “smokers toothpaste” was cool. And the old fuse. The brown bottle is 1788 (I’m guessing whiskey?).......
{thread} Probably from the old Sears catalogue or something. We always do research after digging but haven’t had time yet with much of this stuff. Anyway a cool old plate in one piece. The detail and gloss on the glaze is remarkably good for being buried for xxx years.
{thread} These cleaned up well....10k gold and sterling belt buckle and a sterling costume jewelry ring with plastic ruby. We also found a watch band (stainless I believe) but couldn’t locate the watch.
{thread} There’s an old motorbike buried there and we’re bringing it up a piece at a time. Wonder how much of it we’ll find? (Fender, kick start and we also located the fuel tank)!!
{thread} And lastly....a neck to a Howdie Doody Ukelele. In the past we’ve found more toys but not so much this time. Can’t wait to research this stuff and can’t wait to go back after winter for more digs!!!
Actually now that I look at the pick it’s was likely a banjo.
{thread} This is a duraglas bottle made by the Owens-Illinois Glass Company and dates from 1958. The reason I posted it is because with the attached link you can see the process we use to research and ID stuff....
