Pogba had a brilliant match. Was progressive with passing when he had options (illustrated below), good positioning & recoveries defensively & played the simple passes when necessary. Much better with the ball then his pivot partner.
Man. United were often very narrow with their double pivot in build-up vs front 3 of WH. This allowed for Maguire to often buy-pass the midfield with direct passes up to narrow wings, this however created problems in the final 3rd with often not enough width.
Here we can see the pivot was extremely narrow, as well as the front 3. Width almost exclusively coming from the FB´s particularly in the first half.
Again, particularly in the first half, WH did a fantastic job of overloading Man United on the wings. By pressing MU fullbacks with their wingbacks & shifting over with the midfield, MU often found themselves trapped & needed to play support passes to relieve the pressure.
Another great defensive performance from Wan-Bissaka. While is initial positioning can be better at times, he does so well to recover, and most importantly nearly always get a foot on the ball to tackle or block crosses.
The opposite FB, Telles, did not fair so well defensively. He struggled to contain Bowen at times in the first half, & in turn was at fault for conceding some big WH chances. In the 2nd half, when he made a good block on a cross, you could see/hear him celebrate intensely.
The introduction of Rashford was significant. His pace, directness & progressive running was simply too much for WH to handle. One of his better halves of football this season, a great performance capped with a goal.
Rashford´s goal also should be highlighted. An absolutely brilliant move from MU. The progressiveness & verticality of the attack was fantastic. One touch passes from both Mata & Bruno combined with the run behind & finish from Rashford were wonderful to see.
