In 1982, Mugabe's government stole opposition Zapu's printing machines. The machines were being used by Zapu to print the party propaganda including the Vanguard newspaper ahead of the 1985 elections.
... to rescue the vital equipment, two men, one from Filabusi and the other from Harare, devised a plan to steal the machines back. They were from the Zapu printing and intelligence departments.
They hired a truck and drove straight to the then Salisbury Motel where the machines were being kept by soldiers and ZRP officers. On arrival, they pretended to be from the Mugabe's office sent by the CIO bosses to bring the machines to spy agency HQ..
Unsuspecting soldiers hurriedly loaded the machines into the truck. Off, the two Zapu spies and propagandists drove. They hid the machines in a secret location from they continued to print Zapu material.
When it later dawned on them that they had been duped, the state security agents could not trace who had done that to them and where the machines had been taken to. One day, soon, l will tell the story of the man from Filabusi!
