Today is the 1 year anniversary of @OpenAcademics!🎉

This is my story:
As a 1st-gen academic, it can be lonely and difficult to not only know what you're supposed to be doing, but also to explain it to family and friends. I found Twitter, but it was difficult to... (1/n)
(2/n) ...find other academics to connect with, at least beyond sharing/reading/commenting on professional work and publications. That's why I started @OpenAcademics, to be a place for support and kindness., to know you are not alone...
(3/n) ...A place to connect beyond work and across disciplines, from all over the world. I am still learning how to do this, but I am really overwhelmed with your support, trust, and kindness towards me and others! It has not all been easy. I have received...
(4/n) ... messages from trolls and people upset with what I am sharing, posts that I have not been able to share. People who find the posts (such as FollowFriday) unprofessional and not academic. I love the personality of this account and learning about your lives!...
(5/n)... Right from the start, a few of the big academic accounts on Twitter blocked @OpenAcademics. I don't know why, but it made me realize how much this support was needed. An inclusive space! This community is created for you, and by you...
(6/6)... Thank you! Together, we have built a supportive community where everyone is welcome and respected❤️ #AcademicTwitter #phdchat
