0/ Thinking more about this
This isn't just about enabling fintechs or even giant cos (eg Google, Facebook) to offer financial services
It enables *every brand* to offer financial services
This is unintuitive, and weird
But I think there's something here https://twitter.com/KyleSamani/status/1334923440923545603

1/ Depending on your perspective, most things in the world are kinda sorta commodities
huh?
consider a simple example
Are laptops different? obviously
To many people, are all laptops more or less the same? yes

2/ But, the person who perceives all laptops as the same, may just absolutely love Nike Air Jordan's
To them, shoes are not commodities
Meanwhile, to the computer geek, shoes are a commodity
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

3/ What does this have to do with fintech APIs?
Well, I think most people don't have that strong of an affinity for their financial services providers
Whether that's incumbent banks, or even new generation fintechs like SoFi and Chime
Financial services just aren't that sexy

4/ But shoes are! Computers are! Food can be!
Stripe Treasury makes financial services a near perfect commodity
And so any brand - even one that has nothing to do with financial services - can offer financial services
I know it's weird, but hear me out

In general terms, beyond topline revenue, the metric that most brands optimize is engagement.
Basically, people have a fixed amount of brain space, and brands basically aim to own as much of that as possible
Attention is the world's most valuable commodity

6/ So if you are a brand with real consumer ties, Stripe Treasury enables you turn that engagement - that customer brainspace - into more topline revenue by making it trivial to offer financial services
7/ I realize this sounds pretty strange
But
10 years ago, it was not widely accepted that "every company is a software"
Today it is
I think the Treasury layer of abstraction enables the same type of transition to occur over the next decade
