This morning was the @ucu LGBT+ annual members conf. It was mostly a constructive day of discussing how to advance this work, with a focus on intersectionality. Unfortunately anti-trans ideologues also tried to intervene, claiming their views were being silenced in the union.

This is a lie. Every time anti-trans views are proposed, UCU members - particularly those active in LGBT+ and women’s work - reject them. People are not being silenced, but their views are being actively refuted as harmful, false and wrong, consistently, over many years.

That these people see supporting struggles for equality and justice as a bad thing tells you everything you need to know. This is not trade unionism as I believe in it. I’m just sorry our trans and non-binary members had to hear that in their union today. Solidarity always.
