If you prefer one over the other that’s totally fine, but I find it unnecessary and unfair to compare the Star Wars sequel trilogy and Mandalorian to each other. They’re COMPLETELY different pieces of media.
One’s a movie trilogy and the other is a television show which hasn’t completed its full run as a series yet. The sequel trilogy was meant to be a continuation/conclusion of the Skywalker saga and the Mandalorian is it’s own separate storyline that has some connective tissue.
The sequel trilogy was meant to get people back onboard with the franchise after people left the prequel trilogy disappointed by bringing the sense of adventure back with newer characters and some familiar faces from the originals.
Mandalorian has the luxury of taking place not too long after ROTJ by not relying on the original trio but bringing in some familiar elements/characters from other Star Wars media that general audiences won’t be too familiar with but also ones that aren’t expensive to acquire
And considering the age of the original actors, the movies did as good of a job as they could with what they had especially considering the timeline of events and I think they found an overall good way of tying them together with the new trilogy characters and plot line.
Plus there’s always a chance that the Mandalorian could have a season or a stretch of a season that kinda sucks. Not saying it’s a guarantee that it’ll happen but a lot of shows have and can fall victim to that trap and more than likely it’ll receive a huge amount of backlash.
So even when the show eventually concludes it’s run as a series, I don’t think it’s fair to compare it to the sequels because like I said, they’re completely different.
And the Mandalorian isn’t meant to be a tie-in to the Skywalker saga anyway so I don’t really understand why people are calling it “the proper sequel to the original trilogy”

But it doesn’t surprise me considering how many people hate the recent trilogy considering how many people hate the recent trilogy and how strong the hatred is. Plus it makes for catchy headlines in news articles so they can get all the attention and make a buck.
Anyway, those are my two cents on the whole thing. People can like what they like or prefer something over the other, but I like them both. And it’s okay to like both
carry on!
